Probation Ordered In Shooting at Garfield High School
Darrell Bowling a 17 year old Garfield High School student was placed on probation until age 21 after being found in a case labeled accidental yet grave tragedy. Judge David Black of Domestic Relations Court presided over the sentencing. Bowling of 71 Margaret Ave faced charges in the fatal Feb 25 shooting of David A. Spence 18 of 61 Lilliedale Lane during a card game at 3755 Richards Drive with three other youths. The ruling framed the incident as an unintentional act arising from a prank like setting off a gun during a gathering. The judge addressed the co defendants David Lutz and Larry King urging the event serve as a terrorizing example. The chain of events included break in school attendance and the group handling a .44 caliber gun at the Lutz home before the basement shooting occurred. Spence was struck in the chest after Bowling reportedly joked about shooting.
