Wichita experts praise investigators after Dennis L. Rader, 59, was arrested on suspicion of the BTK killings. The case spanned 31 years with taunting letters and DNA sweeps of thousands. Analysts note the challenge of solving serial cases and the city’s mid size setting aided the pursuit.
Investigators searched near Park City, Wichita suburb, using metal detectors after Dennis Rader was formally charged with 10 counts of first degree murder in the BTK serial killings. Sheriff Gary Steed cited new task force information and declined to elaborate. A Home Depot spokesperson confirmed store involvement but gave no details. Rader met briefly with officials and indicated he would not discuss the case until Thursday. The BTK killings began with eight suspected deaths starting in 1974.
