Social Security tax rollback fails in House committee
In Washington the House Ways and Means Committee narrowly defeated a proposal by Rep Abner Mikva and Rep William Steiger to block next year's Social Security tax increases. Support from business groups and unions was split, as proponents predicted future chances on the House floor. Rep Al Ullman argued against shifting to general revenues, calling it a massive decision.
