Rhodes vetoes 72 items in Ohio budget and orders cuts

Gov. James A. Rhodes announced 72 line item vetoes in the Democratic legislature's 10.6 billion budget bill and ordered state agencies to reduce operating expenses by at least two percent across the board. Ford signs extended jobless pay bill and travels

President Ford signed a bill extending unemployment compensation to 65 weeks from 52, preventing about 250,000 workers from losing benefits. The measure adds 39 weeks for workers not covered by state programs, mainly government, farm, and domestic workers. Beginning tomorrow drivers may turn right on red after a full stop at intersections without signs prohibiting the practice. Middletown will begin without prohibitions, Franklin districts list exceptions, Trenton runs a trial, Lebanon restricts on certain Broadway crossings, Monroe bans from Main Street to Ohio 63, Springboro allows at Ohio 73 and 741, Germantown bans at two signals, with signs planned for Plum and Market and Cherry and Market.
