Duke releases analysis on hydraulic fluid used on surgical instruments
Duke Health officials say RTI International found trace levels of heavy metals in hydraulic fluid used to wash instruments at Duke Health Raleigh and Durham Regional hospitals. Only zinc appeared above trace amounts, and the exposure is described as infinitesimal, with a single instrument containing about 0.08 milligrams on average. Patients remain skeptical about any long term effects.
