In Son Tra 345 miles northeast of Saigon Viet Cong fighters attacked a refugee village killing 73 civilians and 15 pacification workers as fires destroyed most of the town. The assault left scores wounded and added to the week of fierce fighting around Saigon.
The National Maritime Union began a 12:01 am walkout in a wage dispute that could halt 70 percent of the U S merchant fleet. About 100 ships are in ports Atlantic Gulf and Pacific with 407 freighters 158 tankers and 11 passenger freighters potentially affected.
Ohio delegates to the Republican National Convention endorsed Martha Sue Moore of Cambridge for national committeewoman, replacing Katharine Kennedy Brown who had held the post for 36 years. State GOP officials denied any liberal conservative split, noting the vote was 40 to 17 and that Brown pursued reelection at the request of the women she represents. Formal election occurs at the Miami Beach convention in August.
An Indian protest camp on Washington state capitol grounds was ordered to disband after 90 minutes. Troopers removed three teepees and four tents as 29 campers watched. Nine people were taken into custody and seven youths plus a girl detained.
Miami Valley residents enjoyed a pleasant day but tomorrow will bring hot humid weather to the state. A high near 90 degrees is expected with low 60s earlier this morning and clear skies over most of Ohio.

Protestors claimed some at large delegates were nominal backers and vowed renewed effort to win over Chicago convention delegates.
Interior Department estimates show federal spending on Resurrection City totalled over 231000. Police costs reached about 145000 with overtime and holiday pay, turf restoration 36000, and 14600 for Solidarity Day clean-up linked to the June 19 rally that drew about 50000 to the Lincoln Memorial. Police arrested 77 people including 30 Quakers during the Capitol steps protest.
