Sir Winston Churchill arrived in London by air ambulance after a Riviera holiday and a broken thigh. The 87 year old wartime leader, in a plaster cast, smiled bravely as he was transported to Middlesex Hospital amid questions of possible surgery. Lady Churchill and Randolph Churchill accompanied him as doctors praised his iron constitution and he sent thanks from his hospital bed to the House of Commons.

Kennedy Wins House Vote On Trade Bill Ahead Of Senate

Freeman vows no more scandals in agriculture

Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman told the Senate Investigations subcommittee that new directives tighten procedures to expose irregularities quickly. Village Marshal Is Slain In Battle With Suspected Thief

In West Liberty, Ohio, 60 year old Village Marshal Sherman Ricketts died at the scene after a gun battle with 24 year old Michigan man Farl R Jacobs who had been trying to switch license plates from a stolen car. Jacobs was wounded and captured. he admitted shooting the marshal. Jacobs, taken to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, was described as not seriously wounded. West Liberty, Logan County, a village of about 1,400, mourns its marshal and notes his widow Anna and a married daughter.
