Middletown Chapter of the American Cancer Society spent 3714 this year on cancer detection and treatment equipment at Middletown Hospital and on its educational program. It raised 4148.89 in a recent drive led by Mrs. Arthur Harvey. A planned hire of an executive secretary will aid public questions and distribute films and literature for prevention education.

Airman 2.C. John Williams, 20, of Concord North Carolina, was convicted at a Lackland Air Force Base court martial on drunkenness and mistreatment of two basic trainees. He received three months confinement at hard labor, a $150 fine, and a two-grade reduction to airman basic. Man Walks Across Isles Ends 35 Day Journey
William C. Merrett a 53 year old South African completed a 911 mile trek the length of the British Isles in 35 days starting at Land's End and ending at John O'Groats. He undertook the walk as training for a Bath to London 100 mile contest on July 6.
