Germantown planners advance downtown traffic and zoning ideas
Germantown Planning Commission recommends three Chamber of Commerce traffic proposals for downtown including making Center and Plum four way stop and banning left turns from Main into the First National Bank drive in. It also backs prohibiting left turns from Main to Market and calls for off street parking studies and possible one way alleys. The panel seeks to officially recognize eight block downtown as a historic preservation district and to draft zoning regulations. They also consider paving an alley beside Jack and Dolores Hawkins home for a turnaround but oppose vacating the alley. An extension of North Virginia Avenue may be accepted as public street.
