Social Security wage credits and retired worker rules
A reader asks about military service credits for World War II veterans and how long benefits are based on earnings. The answer explains monthly wage credits for active service from 1940 to 1956, discharges, and overlapping federal benefits, plus how 16 best years of earnings are used to compute future benefits. It also covers how to determine if a real estate salesman is an employee or self employed and where to get a determination from the Social Security office.
