Turfs Struck by Stripe and Flag Smuts Warned by OSU Expert
Ohio State University extension plant pathologist R E Partyka warns that stripe and flag smuts seriously affect Merion and other bluegrasses. Symptoms include pale green to yellow patches, yellow-green streaks, and leaves that curl and split as the fungus grows inside the plant. Early detection and systemic fungicide such as benomyl (Benlate) can help, with dethatching or aeration recommended before treatment.
