Budget Driving Time Says AAA Official

Ray M. Taylor of the Butler County Auto Club warns that good vacation planning includes budgeting driving time. He says over ambitious plans reduce enjoyment and raise the risk of traffic incidents due to faster or fatigued driving. A rule of thumb is 300 to 500 miles per day or up to eight hours behind the wheel, with two drivers possible. He also notes motorists can average 100 miles every three hours including meals and fuel, and that sightseeing slows this pace. An early start and mileage guides help maximize distance.
