Eisenhower backs birth control info for foreign governments
Former President Eisenhower endorsed legislation to allow the federal government to distribute birth control information to foreign governments. He told a Senate Foreign Aid subcommittee that curbing population growth is vital for world survival and that welfare funds should not lure unwed mothers to have illegitimate children. He noted a shift from prior opposition and said research could guide possible actions including sterilization, though final steps would shock many citizens.
