If You Drink Dont Drive in Ohio Implied Consent Debate

In Ohio the implied consent law since January 1 1968 boosted drunken driving arrests by 83 percent from 2805 in 1967 to 5126 in 1968. Breath tests became available at most posts by September 1968 and refusals carry a six month license suspension. The law defines drunk driving at 15 percent blood alcohol but a bill would lower to 10 percent. Tests show many arrested had alcohol levels at or above 15 percent, while fatal accident victims revealed 54 percent had been drinking. Ohio remains at 15 percent while 13 states have 10 percent or lower.
