OSU Board Reverses Vote, Names Ross Black Studies Chair
Ohio State University trustees, with four absent, reconsidered University of Chicago professor Charles O. Ross and approved him as chairman of a new Black Studies program by a 5-6 vote. Ross accepted the post on May 26, having been the unanimous first choice of the search committee, after earlier opposition members were absent. Ross, an assistant professor at Chicago, had helped Gary Indiana mayor Richard Hatcher's 1968 campaign and later ran for Congress.
