Curt Flood Case Upholds Baseball Antitrust Exemption
The Supreme Court ruled five to three that baseball is a business engaged in interstate commerce but cannot be stripped of its antitrust exemption. Justice Blackmun noted the inconsistency should be remedied by Congress, not the court, and acknowledged the reserve system as an anomaly while underscoring Congress’ long inaction.

Wallace spared from wheelchair life after surgery
Wallace doctors report a 90 percent chance he can move with assistance within six months after removing a bullet from his spinal canal. He could attend the Democratic National Convention, with less than a 50 percent chance of walking normally, and may walk a few steps with braces and crutches. The operation targeted nerves near the cauda equina at the first lumbar vertebra. Wallace faces rehabilitation and uncertain long term nerve recovery, with plans to stay at Holy Cross Hospital and then return to Alabama before the convention.
