Middletown Officials Refuse County Defense Funding
City commissioners state no money will be provided to a county wide civilian defense program. Francis Carmody says the proposed $3,000 yearly defense director salary is excessive and not fair given volunteers already staff the effort. The group will seek other support while tightening city expenses and enforcing double parking rules. Land acquisitions totaling 23 000 were approved for street and rail projects and a 2.5 acre tract from Middletown Hydraulic Co. for city ball diamonds. Two homes in Sts. were approved for sale to Allie organ for relocation.
