Attorney: Poor judgment led to losses not fraud in BVWWC case
COLUMBUS The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation lost 215 million from an interest rate sensitive hedge fund investment, not fraud or breach. The suit, filed by Attorney General Jim Petro, accuses MDL Capital Management and Mark Lay of leveraged bets beyond agreed limits, with a potential greater loss. Slotnick says the bureau simply saw losses when rates did not rise and will reply within 30 days. The other controversy concerns up to 13 million missing from rare coin funds managed for the bureau by Tom Noe.
