On the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Ephrata Wisconsin trio stopped for radar speed check shot two troopers Edward Herbst and Fred Bendl and briefly cuffed others to a tree. The three suspects Gerald Larson Howard Langnes and James Szulczewski were captured hours later and charged with assault with intent to kill pointing a deadly weapon and aggravated assault and battery.
