Secretary of Defense Wilson said a single service merger of Army Navy and Air Force would not end differences of opinion. He warned against “magic formulas” like complete unification and stressed honest debate, followed by prompt implementation of decisions.
Washington AP reports the Air Force gave only a noncommittal reply about whether the B52 dropped an H bomb over Bikini last month missed the intended burst point. AEC offered no statement, amid speculation of a possible 3500 yard error.
The weather remains hot with occasional thundershowers through Sunday. Partly cloudy skies, warm temperatures, and a high near 90 with a low around 70 are forecast for today tonight and Saturday. Scattered storms may ease by Sunday as cooler air moves in. Middletown highs reached 87 and lows near 68 yesterday afternoon.

Cleveland police searched an abandoned estate off East Boulevard NE early today for 8 year old John Dale Mower who told his mother Wednesday night he would go out to play in Rockefeller Park. A Dayton area couple Sara Louise Pfarrer and Andrew Dixon were secretly married last Saturday at St Albert the Great Church with police guarding entrances. Dixon, wounded by a bomb gift on April 28, has partial vision and hearing recovery. NEW YORK The United Steelworkers rejected the wage and contract proposals from U S Steel Bethlehem and Republic as entirely inadequate.President David J McDonald said the five cent an hour raise offered this year plus the fringe benefits were too little and the contract too long and dated. He noted the five year term and that the offer came too late to matter. The union spurned the Big Three plan and pledged renewed bargaining on a modern, timely agreement.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a closed session increased the foreign aid bill to 4.515 billion dollars, adding 715 million over the House version. The panel restored 100 million to the President discretionary fund for Asian economic development and approved the higher total 9 to 5.
BUENOS AIRES Argentina’s provisional government backed asylum norms and returned rebel Gen Raul Tanco and six others to the Haitian embassy hours after being abducted by gunmen and handed to the army. President Aramburu ordered the rapid return after Haitian ambassador protest. The seven, including Tanco, were unharmed and placed back in embassy protection amid questions over their fate and possible departure from the country.
