Strikers Sign New Contract In Cincinnati

In Cincinnati the 14 day hodcarriers and laborers strike ends after Local 265 AFL signed a contract with Darin and Armstrong of Detroit for a 12.5 cent per hour wage increase. The Ford plant project worth about 17 million dollars saw partial resumption as construction was expected to return to normal. Several spokesmen noted the deal may not end the broader strike which covers roughly 35 million dollars of work in theGreater Cincinnati area and that the plant work remains under a fall completion deadline.

Suffocates In Bin At Elevator Tragedy in Laura

Roscoe Bare, 41, suffocated yesterday after falling into a bin being filled with soybeans at an elevator in Laura near Troy Ohio. He was alone when the accident occurred and is believed to have been in the bin about thirty minutes before discovery.

Three Youths Rescued From Scioto River

Three 18 year old Portsmouth youths were rescued from the Scioto River after their boat capsized 20 feet from shore. The group set out from Columbus to return home 90 miles away when rough water pulled Don Cowdery and Ronald Bartram under driftwood. Bob Whitehouse and Royal Allard tried to help but were marooned. firemen and sheriff deputies used a rope and a spare boat to rescue them. They completed the trip home by car.

Two Escapees Being Sought in Ohio Manhunt

AP reports a manhunt in Youngstown Ohio for two parole violators who escaped from Mahoning County Jail in gray prisoner garb yesterday. Edward Lyons 20 East Liverpool burglary suspect and Harry Kimla 22 Youngstown parolee from Moundsville West Virginia penitentiary serving one to 15 years for armed robbery. Jail officials could not explain how the pair escaped.

Arequipa Revolt in Peru Suppressed After Two Days

Lima Peru AP reports at least 40 people were killed in a two day revolt in Arequipa as rebels seized city hall military HQ airport and a radio station before loyal troops arrived and crushed the uprising. Censorship lifted as authorities say the unrest was confined to Arequipa with numerous arrests and ongoing efforts to restore order.
