U.S. troops scouring Saigon’s rocket belt locate 32 enemy missiles and kill 26 guerrillas. Viet Cong launch four rockets into Tan Son Nhut airbase, killing one American and damaging a plane. Major cache found six miles northeast by the 1st Infantry Division.
Washington reports casualties could reach a quarter‑million by year end as Paris talks continue. Through June 8, total U.S. combat deaths stood at 77,716 with 27,553 hospitalizations this year. Analysts compare to Korea and World War II totals to gauge the war’s rising cost. Viet Cong rockets around Saigon prompt radar boosts and warnings of renewed attacks despite three days without hits.

A tornado ripped through Tracy Minnesota killing seven people including a two year old girl and injuring many others. Seven bodies were recovered at Tracy Hos pital where seventy two patients were admitted and twenty two remained overnight with eleven in critical condition. The path was a block and a half wide two miles long, then moved away from town as water and power failed and emergency crews worked by generator. A farmer’s early alert by phone helped save lives and the town siren warned residents eight miles away.
A flood of letters telegrams and calls urging stronger federal gun control has hit Congress after the Kennedy assassination. Urban areas lead the surge with growing rural support from the East Midwest South and West. Bills vary but include licensing and registration debates while Senator Harris A Williams Jr reports over 6000 letters in favor of tougher measures.
Rural constituents are moving from opposition to mild approval on gun controls. Representatives Stafford, Hathway, Abbitt, and Stuckey report upticks in favorable letters from northern New England and the South. Hartke notes 1000 letters from Marengo Indiana urging registration and penalties, while Dominick sees roughly two to one favoring controls among about 400 letters from Colorado.
