President Truman completed plans for eight additional state stops on his cross country railroad tour. He will deliver the final of five major addresses in Los Angeles at the Ambassador Hotel at 3 15 p m EST before boarding his special train for Washington where he is due late Friday.
President Truman, en route to Los Angeles aboard the Truman Train, told Santa Barbara crowds that the water power must not be handed to special interests. He urged listeners to understand his stand as he spoke early in the day.
Los Angeles reports Mr. Truman will give rear platform talks at Albuquerque New Mexico and other points on his trip to Kansas City. He will stay Wednesday night at Independence Missouri with Mrs. Truman and Margaret, then proceed to Grandview in Jackson County to visit his brother Vivi.
Washington AP reports a new Senate showdown over the 5.3 billion Europe Recovery plan to boost Europe and curb Communism. The Appropriations Committee shortens the term to 12 months and restores most House specifics, but funds remain 245 million below authorized. Senators Vandenberg Marshall and Hoffman press for full funding.
The Economic Cooperation Administration approved a new package worth 95.6 million for nine European countries and China, bringing total commitments to 393.7 million. Britain leads with 36.3 million in metals sulfur cheese and tobacco, others include France Netherlands Italy Greece Norway and Trieste with various allocations. Additional cotton and tobacco valued at about 27 million and 7.4 million will be bought and shipped from the United States and other materials purchased from multiple countries.
Secretary of Commerce Sawyer told the Advertising Federation of America's 44th convention that America's robust economy is the core duty to sustain a free peaceful world. He warned inflation dangers, praised Hoffman and Harriman for European aid, and stressed tying domestic and foreign problems as one.

Walter Hallanan, chairman of the arrangements committee, said the change must pass the Rules Committee and the full convention, aiming to speed the nomination process for the party standard bearer.
Walter Geckeler urged Middletown residents to participate in summer activities at city parks and playgrounds. The director spoke to 15 park supervisors at Roosevelt Junior High about forming teams in softball, baseball, volleyball, and tennis for all ages.

Fetzer was jailed for auto theft nine 1942 sentence. Connors five 15 year term for robbery. The other two escapees Rudolph Limaurs and Louis Stanley were also arrested for auto theft.
Sergeant Paul Fouts of Middletown Police completes twenty years on the force today and takes charge of the desk at headquarters. He joined the force June 15, 1908, the date he became a patrolman, and continues active duty as he also helps in a neighborhood bird nest inquiry where a sparrow allegedly stole a pair of white shoestrings from Mrs. Fouts.
Robert J. Lowry of Columbus died when his dump truck struck a bridge near Roundhead in an accidental crash reported by AP.
Harry J. Keys 55 a Columbus Dispatch cartoonist was found dead in a Hotel Lexington room in New York. His wife Ruth 58 was in critical condition from possible barbiturate poisoning. Investigators found sleeping tablets and an amber fluid bottle as authorities probe the apparent self inflicted death. Keys long career spanned Akron Times Youngstown Telegram Scripps Howard Oklahoma News and Columbus Dispatch where he worked since 1911. his family includes son Dr Harry Keys daughter Mrs Joseph Clifford and sister Miss Florence Keys.
Washington AP Republican leaders set a night session for the Senate as lawmakers push to complete business and adjourn next Saturday. Wherry announced a vote on extending the reciprocal trade agreements act and debated funding for Interior, Navy, and government corporations while a long farm bill debate looms.
A quiet move to relocate United Nations headquarters from the United States grows with support. Some nations plan groundwork and a Paris assembly in fall could see a Geneva substitute site. A $65 million UN loan for Manhattan HQ would threaten the switch, but officials say loan approval still may not guarantee New York City as permanent HQ.

Pittsburgh AP report says U S Steel denies plans to grant a 10 cent hourly raise to CIO United Steelworkers. A union spokesman says workers unaware of any proposal and denies behind the scenes talks. The company policy is a no raise stance with a price reduction program.
U S District Judge John W. Clancy granted a temporary injunction at the request of the Justice Department to stop a threatened nationwide strike by more than 100 000 maritime workers. The order names CIO unions and 54 shipping firms and bars worker lockouts while requiring good faith bargaining.
Washington shrouds soft coal talks as three weeks remain to avert nationwide strike. The current wage pact ends June 30, with a July 5 vacation stretching the deadline. John L. Lewis presses for the operators to cover about 20 million dollars in distress payments under the former welfare fund, as bargaining resumes at 1 PM EST.
Preliminary hearing for Mrs. Mary Clay Watts, 43, charged with murder in the deaths of her husband Willis Watts and daughter Barbara Ann, will be held tomorrow before Norwood Mayor R Edward Tepe. Pathologists found mercury and a barbiturate in Barbara Ann and arsenic in Willis.
