Hawkeye the Truant Officer and Attendance Reform
An aging Ogden truancy legend nicknamed Hawkeye, Charles Hocking, bridged old and new attendance work. Once feared at the pool hall and swimming hole, he patrolled 1930s to 1960s with a mix of discipline and kindness. Today attendance roles have expanded to counselors and social workers with varied education across cities.
