The Middletown Planning Commission approved final plat for Ayershire Village amid a dispute over carving out a three acre park near a school site. Elderly Man Wounded in Canal Street Incident

A 73-year-old man, John M. Wilson of 1502 Church St, was treated at Middletown Hospital last night for knife wounds to the face and back from an unidentified assailant at Canal and First Avenue. He required 28 stitches, hospital officials said.

Local Boy Hit by Car While Biking on Keister Road

Gary Nickel, 14, son of Mr and Mrs Wilmer Nickel of Germantown Rt 1, was struck by an automobile near Rt 4 on Keister Road while turning into a driveway on his bicycle. He was taken to Middletown Hospital for treatment.

An 11 year old boy, Bill Ray Fryman of 3708 Vannest Street, was treated and dismissed from Middletown Hospital after a disagreement with a swarm of bees. He suffered multiple stings to the head and upper body.

Tragic fall claims Warren tree worker

Michael Doretich of Warren died after tumbling 30 feet from a tree while trimming branches in Bar letta Two. He worked for Davey Tree Co. of Kent and was on duty Friday when the accident occurred.

Prevention over rehabilitation urged for juvenile crime

Methodist Bishop Hazen G. Werner urged Ohio Methodists to emphasize prevention of juvenile crime, criticizing rehabilitation facilities as inadequate and overcrowded at the Boys Industrial School in Lancaster. Local Sea Scouts First To Cover Water Route From Indian Lake

Nineteen waterlogged Sea Scouts completed a six day 154 mile trek by life raft from Indian Lake above Bellefontaine to Miami River Park in Dayton area. Skipper Jimm Fay said it was a major two year project, never before attempted by rafts though canoes had done the route. After a rip near Piqua dam forced repairs, the group resumed night and day paddling with planned daily distances later boosted by extra trucking around Locking Port Dam to finish ahead of schedule.

Boys delay landings on rain filled night trip

Night rain squalls slowed a group of boys en route to a planned landing above West Carrollton causing two hour delay. They pressed on to a point near Miami River Park before ending their journey. Parents and leaders awaited at the line. They will resume chores to fund a future trip likely to Canada two years hence.

Trouble Grows In Jailhouse At Franklin

Franklin police arrested James Van 37 of Dayton on intoxication charges. A second charge of destruction of property was added after jail lockdown for damaging a jail bank and plumbing. Edward Barnes 27 of Scottsburg Ala was also charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after an arrest on N Main Street. Investigators looked into destruction of a public phone booth torn from a booth in front of the Franklin Eagles Building.

Woman reports attempted assault after meeting man at cafe

A pregnant woman told police a man she met at Poor Boys Cafe tried to attack her last night in his car behind Mayer Packing Co on Michigan Ave. She described the suspect as about 30, 5 feet 9 inches, 150 pounds, driving a 1954 green car.

Union Loses Election at John Ross Store

John Ross Store employees voted 58 to 8 against joining the Retail Store Employees Union AFL CIO in an NLRB election conducted by Case March of the Cincinnati office. Of 73 eligible voters, five were absent and two ballots challenged. The union may file objections within five days. if not set aside, they must wait a year for another election. The petition for the election was signed by 30 employees. Levey & Levey represented the store, which sought a court order limiting union activity at entrances. no court action has been taken.

Police Briefs Include Stolen Bike and Car Recoveries

A bicycle owned by David McSwain at 412 Burton Rd was reported stolen yesterday near the Sunset swimming pool. TOM O FLYNN at 1028 Kunz Ave reported his car stolen from the Knights of Columbus lot and later recovered. City officials note a license plate loss by Francis Carmody and police investigated a break in at Water Refining Co on Manhattan St with a window entry and a broken soda machine.

In Coshocton Ohio an eight year old named John Samuel Griffiths was struck by a truck and killed as he rode his bicycle into the street in West Lafayette on Friday.

Three Persons Injured In Aberdeen Drive Crash

Three persons were injured yesterday in a two car collision on Aberdeen Drive near Central Avenue. Janet Woodruff 28 cited for failure to yield right of way after her car struck Cash Wheeler 67. Woodruff car hit a tree after crossing the sidewalk. Edward and Wapella Carver 25 and 3 were treated and dismissed at Middletown Hospital. Elizabeth Wheeler 65 from the other car suffered a possible knee injury. Damage totaled 550.

Plow Follows Tractor Collides With Car Kills Driver

A farm plow broke loose from a tractor and struck a car on U S 23 eight miles south of Upper Sandusky Ohio injuring 42 year old Claude S Stine of Rt 2 Fremont. The collision occurred Friday and the driver was fatally injured.
