Heat to Tough on Area Highways
Construction crews worked to repair a 1200 foot section of Interstate 75 near Franklin after buckling in 93 degree heat. Officials said it will likely recur if temperatures stay hot. The two right hand southbound lanes before the Ohio 73 exit were closed as crete expanded shocks caused by heat. Traffic on Ohio 4 between Middletown and Hamilton buckled but remained flowing.

Jail Break Try Not Charmed at Butler County Jail
Early Sunday two inmates 18 to 19 attempted a jail break at Butler County Jail in Hamilton. Deputy Charles Combs reported the lock on a juvenile cell was broken with a wood handle tool, but the escape failed as two prisoners remained in custody after being placed in solitary. The juvenile cells on the second floor housed regular prisoners since the Juvenile Detention Center construction. In the past year there were prior escape attempts and a May 9 breakout with one inmate at large.

Burglars Loot Range From Safe To TV Set
Burglars active again in Butler County over the weekend entered several locations. Items stolen include a small safe, a stereo tape cartridge, a portable television set, and jewelry. A man reported $8000 in savings bonds stolen after withdrawing them for his deceased brother, plus a $900 loss from a service station safe. Police Dog Valuable As Burglary Suspects Nabbed
Six burglary suspects were in custody with three nabbed near break ins and three others suspected of plotting to break into the Vic Cassano Pizza House. A 38 year old woman was being investigated for a separate Radcliff Oil Co burglary on Yankee Road and Baltimore Street. Rommel the police dog helped locate a 17 year old hiding behind a desk while a 16 year old surrendered after hearing the dog bark. Three Hamilton men were later arrested for investigation of burglary tools after a tip about a plan to raid the pizza house.
