In Bangkok Siam on June 9 1946 King Ananda Mahidol was found dead with a bullet wound. Authorities say accidental discharge but investigators suspect murder or self defense. Four palace attendants were jailed as suspects and political turmoil followed, ending with Phibun's return to power after Pridi Phanomyong’s resignation.
