Lawn Sprinkling Pushes City Water Use to Record
Public Utilities Director Robert Moschell reports Middletown used 324.4 million gallons of water in May the highest since the plant opened April 28 1971. Dry weather and lawn sprinkling drove demand with May 28 marking the peak daily flow of 13.4 million gallons though the plant can handle up to 20 million per day. The record stands above the August 1976 high of 303.6 million and daily high of 12.6 million in June 1976. The city maintains an adequate supply with no urgent conservation requirement.
