Coast Guard cutters and commercial tugs assist in saving the disabled Flagship Sinco adrift off northeast Florida about 100 miles east northeast of Jacksonville. The 10,803 ton tanker with 42 aboard had 15 feet of water in the engine room after a broken cooling casing admitted sea. Communications failed as a northeast wind and heavy seas battered the ship while other tankers stood by. Captain J H Tibbetts reported the crew remained calm though unsure how long they could stay afloat. The vessel is registered out of Marcus Hook Pennsylvania.
