Ohio union to start talks with state on new prison staff contract
The Ohio Civil Service Employes Association opens negotiations with the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Columbus. Executive secretary Karl Stewart expects no hassles and a three to four week bargaining period. The pact would recognize the union and cover overtime, shift differentials, and regular management meetings. The OCSEA claims 35,000 to 36,000 state workers and says current stoppages over jurisdiction prompted many prisoners’ staff to join. The agreement would not include wage increases and any new union recognizes only if it has 30 percent of workers.
