Ohio townships and cities accused of tax grabs in JEDD use
Critics say a state law meant to spur jobs and development is being used to raise costs for residents via new or higher income taxes. Joint Economic Development Districts and Zones allow city partners to claim most district tax revenue, shrinking township funds. A proposed Scioto Township Grove City district involves corrections facilities, potentially generating up to 1 million in new taxes for Scioto Township. Officials and Rep. Kirk Schuring condemn the use as an improper tax grab and seek to close legal anomalies.
