A jury retires to rule on Dr Stephen Ward on jurid vice charges while he remains unconscious after an overdose in hospital. Justice Marshall delays sentencing until Ward recovers and cautions police to heighten Ward’s security.
A bipartisan U S delegation will travel to Moscow for the formal signing of the nuclear test ban treaty led by Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Delegates include Democrats Fulbright Humphrey Pastore and Republicans Saltonstall Aiken with Dirksen and Rourke not invited. Mansfield and Dirksen reportedly stayed to handle Senate duties.
Norfolk attorney Hilary H. Jones Jr., 40, a Norfolk native and Boston University graduate, was unanimously chosen by the seven member school board to succeed Stanley Walker, who resigned to run for the state legislature.
Argentina polls show Arturo Illia a 62 year old country doctor poised to win the July 7 presidential election. Military approval clears the way for end of 16 months of turmoil as Illia pledges anti-Communist stance and sovereign oil policy.

The drug's role is pivotal as Ratterman alleges drugging and a frame-up before his arrest, with six defendants named including Tito Carinci Edward Marty Buccieri Charles Lester Newport Police Chief Upshaw White and detectives Pat Quitter.
The body of George Ten Eyck aged 40 from Cincinnati area was located in Grand Traverse Bay by a Coast Guard helicopter about 100 yards from the stranded fishing boat. Investigators continue search for his 3 year old son presumed lost.

Gen. Hamilton H. Howze takes command in Korea, replacing Gen. Meloy. A seasoned paratrooper with WWII combat, Howze later led the military assistance group in South Korea, headed Army Mobility Board, and commanded at Fort Bragg. He was chosen by McNamara for the Korean post and also leads US and UN forces in Korea potentially with Turkish and Thai contingents. He is married with two sons and considers El Paso his official home.
Labor leader Walter Reuther warned in Los Angeles that hate groups threaten democracy and could spark a new civil war if the United States fails to resolve racial tensions with reason. He urged swift congressional passage of Kennedy's civil rights program and said he would join the August 28 Washington civil rights march.
