Ford visits Poland as talks with communist leaders begin

President Ford arrives in Warsaw for a two day visit to meet East European leaders led by Edward Gierek. The trip follows talks with Helmut Schmidt in Bonn and precedes a Helsinki summit with 35 governments including Brezhnev. Ford plans to push economic cooperation and express misgivings before signing the principles pact.

Unarmed 17 Year Old Student Hijacks Tokyo to Hawaii Flight

A 17-year-old private high school student in Tokyo hijacked an All Nippon Airways Lockheed Tri Star about 35 minutes into a Tokyo to Sapporo flight. He demanded returning to Tokyo and unloading passengers before going to Honolulu. He was arrested after landing, revealed to be unarmed with 286 aboard.

Price rise slows for 1975 with cautious optimism

The Council on Wage and Price Stability says average price increases may reach about 8 percent in 1975, down from 12.2 percent last year, aided by a 6 percent first quarter CPI rise and expected productivity gains. It sees potential price relief in 1976 due to continued output expansion and unused capacity. Wage hikes in Q1 outpaced CPI.

Government LSD tests on prisoners and patients raise consent concerns

The Department of Health Education and Welfare ran LSD studies from 1954 to 1968 involving about 2500 prisoners mental patients and paid volunteers. HEW denies any nonconsensual dosing and funded over 30 university projects. NIMH noted mixed results with possible limited value for alcoholics.
