Campus primate center plans at Davis to house 10000 monkeys
UC Davis aims to build a National Primate Conditioning Center taking 300 acres for 6 000 to 10 000 or more monkeys within five years. Dr Leon H Schmidt leads the project to study and care for primates not just as lab animals with a 22 to 200 member staff projected over two decades. Monkeys from India Southeast Asia Africa and the Americas will be added. apes will be excluded due to size cost and handling challenges.
