Monroe considers 0.5 percent income tax plan

Monroe City Council voted 6-0 to place a 0.5 percent income tax renewal on the November ballot. If approved, it would raise about 1.78 million dollars annually and allow elimination of the 1.85 mill permanent fire levy from 1983, about 300000 dollars yearly, with a net gain of roughly 1.4 million to the city treasury. Mayor Boutson said the fire levy relief could ease residents’ property taxes.

The measure aims to cover fire protection for Carlisle Franklin and Franklin Township with an estimated 48 dollar yearly cost for a 100000 dollar home.
