West Nile kills Butler County man first Ohio death

An 80-year-old Butler County resident is Ohio’s first human West Nile Virus death this year. Health officials say age over 50 and immune issues increase risk. Last year Ohio had 108 probable or confirmed cases and eight deaths statewide. Authorities advise limiting outdoor time at dawn and dusk, wearing light clothing, using DEET repellant, and eliminating standing water to curb mosquitoes. Regularly clean gutters and chlorinate pools, saunas, hot tubs, and bird baths weekly.
