A C-47 transport with 26 aboard including four war correspondents ditched south of Saipan near Tokyo. One survivor was picked up and searchers scoured the sea for others. The four reporters listed were James D. Lee, Maximilien Philonenko, Stephen Simmons, and Albert Hinton, all on official late Wednesday Tokyo departure for Korea.
Robert Reed told reporters that 400 field agents report strong U.S. farm readiness to produce food for civilians and armed forces. He cites mechanization electrification better livestock improved crops fertilizers insecticides and better management as key factors. He warns housewives not to buy more than needed to avoid shortages and price rises.

A trio of masked robbers looted the Corryville Fifth Third Union Trust bank in Cincinnati yesterday near 2 p.m. forcing staff and patrons to the basement. They loaded two briefcases with cash, estimated at $40,000, and fled as police and FBI traced leads. Three suspects described as a 27 year old foreigner, an 18 year old, and a 30 year old were detained briefly but no arrests reported.
AP dispatch from Cincinnati recalls a bank robbery in which three gunmen stormed the bank near the ruler's window. A three year old boy, Terry Lee Johnson, tugged at his father while the hold up was in progress, prompting a startled reaction from the parent.
A Fort Wayne man was found riding in and allegedly using a stolen car as authorities traced a sequence of leads. Kentucky State Patrol officer Bill Newman pursued the suspect as a potential base of operations emerged, with a half mile from the bank noted as a key detail.
In Oakley Kansas an Air Force B 25 twin engine plane crashed in a pasture during a thunderstorm yesterday killing all six aboard. The wreckage covered about two acres. The aircraft was en route from Scott Field Illinois to Lowry Field Colorado. Names were withheld pending notification of next of kin.
FAIRBANKS Alaska AP Alaska s foremost industrialist and wealthiest man Captain Austin Eugene Lathrop died beneath the wheels of a loaded coal car yesterday He was inspecting coal at his Hearly River Coal Corporation holdings at Santrana 112 miles south of Fairbanks Dr Paw B Haggland said the gondola operator failed to see Lathrop and released a loaded car down a slight incline The industrialist either tripped or fell under a wheel.
Washington AP reports internal dissension within the Republican National Committee as Arthur Summerfield resigns as chairman of the Strategy Committee. In his letter he accuses National Chairman Guy Gabrielson of letting the group die on the vine after being urged to dissolve it amid regional party conferences. The committee had been formed under Hugh D. Scott Jr to take over active direction.
General MacArthur sketched front lines near Yongdong as Communist divisions pressed eastern toward the U S First Cavalry. Air Force jets and Mustangs pounded Red concentrations while U S 25th Division units repelled late attacks near Maeromyeon. South Korean forces pushed seven miles at Hamchang with American air support as Yongdok's coastal advance continued.
