The Ohio Crop Reporting Service pegs the crop at about 92 000 hundredweight as of July 1, about 10 percent above 1969 but 3 percent below 1968, with one fifth of the nation’s late summer crop produced in Ohio. Consumers are advised to buy corn quickly after harvest or refrigerate promptly to preserve sweetness, and hydrocooled corn is preferred by study participants.
