Protesters Rally Against Cleveland Busing Plan Outside School Board
More than 200 chanting parents gathered outside the Cleveland Board of Education to oppose the desegregation busing plan set to begin in September. They delivered letters refusing participation, while building doors remained locked. Dr. Charles Leftwich, court-appointed chief of desegregation, met five parents but rejected a larger meeting with the group’s lawyer and media. The demonstrators, urging rights protection, labeled Leftwich as an outsider, and the protest lasted about an hour.

As of July 1 about 10.9 million cattle were in feedlots with a 12 percent year over year increase, including 40.1 million heifers and calves, up 20 percent. Eldon Ball says the rise in feedlot heifers signals restraint in breeding.

Bacterial wilt threatens cucumbers and related plants
Bacterial wilt affects cucumbers and muskmelons and less often squash or pumpkin. Wilting starts at a few leaves, spreads downward, and kills the plant. Beetles carry the bacteria and feeding aids transmission. Control hinges on early insecticide use on seedlings and during growth.
