Myrmecologists Couple Study Ants Across Lifetimes
George Wheeler and his wife Jeanette, among a small group of American myrmecologists, have spent decades studying ants. At 80 Wheeler continues in the lab and field, guiding students and compiling a Nevada focused ant catalog while answering larval questions from researchers nationwide. The couple’s work, rooted in field trips and lab nests, covers species, behavior, and ecological roles. Syracuse, in Sicily, was founded by Greek settlers in the 8th century B.C.
