Premier Patrice Lumumba informed the U.N. mission he will fly to New York on Saturday to speak to the Security Council about the Congo crisis. A Council meeting may be postponed awaiting his arrival. Belgian troops are being withdrawn and Belgian air force HQ is packing as Swedish guards assume duties at the Leopoldville airport.
Canadian air dominates the Miami Valley for pleasant days and cool nights. Forecast calls for fair cool today and tonight with a high near 84 and low around 58 degrees. Frida expected sunny and slightly more humid as highs reach about 87 later. Middletown yesterday reached 85 by 5 p.m. and a low of 5 at 6 a.m.

Two Soviet Ilyushin transports arrived in Accra on Wednesday night to join an airlift sending Ghanaian troops and police to the Congo. The aircraft brought foodstuffs from the Soviet Union to the Congo and then proceeded to Ghana, as British and American planes since Saturday fly Ghanaian troops to the Congo for ONUC duties.
Force advances rapidly into the Cone area aiming to restore order and protect residents. The commander expressed hope the force will reach about 10,000 personnel in a few days.

New York AP reports the 1960 antipresidenttial Beat Party nomination goes to Bill Smith of Chicago. He wears a beard and defeats rivals including "Big Brown" of Detroit and Sen John F Kennedy of Massachusetts. Smith wins on the fifth ballot at the College of Complexes amid a smoke filled room. Kennedy polls three votes on the first ballot. other totals show Big Brown with 11 and Condit with five. Delegates from a dozen states and Mexico caucus as voting progresses. 15 votes are needed to nominate.
In Baker Oregon a vast wildfire season expands with hundreds of fires scorching timber and range as heat nears 100 degrees and winds gust. One blaze menaces an Idaho town while Oregon, Idaho and Washington governors declare emergencies across dozens of fires and potential megafires.
Storms swept Texas with 4.5 inches in Andrews and high winds flooding streets. Waer traffic stalled between Andrews and Odessa as a 86 mph Houston airport wind damaged planes and a brick chimney. The West faced 100 degree heat with active fires, lightning, and swirling winds impeding firefighting efforts.

A massive 30,000 acre blaze along the Oregon Idaho border near Marsing remained out of control as flames swept knee high grass and winds gusted. Ed Ring led firefighting efforts with mobilized ranchers and equipment while a Woodland home was evacuated within a quarter mile. Governors Rosellini and Smylie declared a state of emergency as temperatures topped 110 in some areas.
The body of 68 year old Lillian Black of 22 East Second Street was recovered from the Miami River late this morning about a half mile below the Second Street bridge. She had disappeared from home last night after being dismissed from Middletown Hospital yesterday. A search began when her purse was found on the bridge. In Chicago AP reports Gov Mark Hatfield of Oregon will nominate Vice President Richard Nixon for president at next week’s Republican National Convention.
Senator John F Kennedy announced the New Frontiers campaign will begin in Hawaii and Alaska, with first stops planned in those states. The move aims to broaden support in newly admitted states as part of the national rollout.
Wilbur B. Zimmerman 62 president of Maxwell Paper Co drowned when his outboard boat capsized near Erieau Ontario while vacationing with his wife Eloise. Two youths on a nearby boat aided a passenger, Dudley McCready, but Zimmerman was not found before dark. Zimmerman's career began at Urbana's Howard Paper Mill and progressed to Maxwell Paper Co presidency in 1955. He was active in local and national paper groups and community organizations. Funeral plans await recovery of the body in Franklin.

St Louis police arrest a Havana born dancer Clarice Anniel for indecent exposure at a night club raid. She refuses to dress, resists officers, and is held for immigration. Club operator Charles Elliott faces charges for permitting an indecent act and is released on bond.
The FBI holds a Michigan ex-convict in the Dubuque physician disappearance case. Victory Harry Fegner, 25, was arrested while attempting to sell Dr. Edward Roy Bartels’s car. Fegner wore a gray suit and had a 380 pistol beside him. Accomplice Jack Hale, 30, of Birmingham, faced grand larceny charges and is jailed.
Bartels 32 responded to a late July call and left his home to help a supposed sick woman in a rooming house. He has not been seen since. The FBI says the man with him used the name Sam Newman but is Feguer from Michigan, now detained after trying to dispose of a 1959 automobile in Birmingham. FBI agents questioned him for hours seeking details of Bartels disappearance. We can only say we have a theory.
