American Savings Bank plans a new Hunt er area branch between the Renaissance housing development and the relocated Bishop Fenwick High School east of Union Road, with six to nine months before work may start. Butler and Warren counties show fewer housing permits in the first half of the year despite ongoing new homes. Butler leads Greater Cincinnati with 1193 permits through June 30, down 8.5 percent from 2004, while Warren falls 21 percent to 1142 permits. Liberty Township records the most Butler permits at 318, as Monroe and Middletown post gains in new builds. Local builders cite steady demand and inventory limits, with Clermont and Hamilton counties showing mixed results amid downtown condo interest.
Middletown Regional Hospital is among 28 facilities honored by the Ohio Hospital Association Statewide Hospital Safety Campaign for top safety programs and employee safety records among 92 participating hospitals. John McKinnney, the hospital's facilities director and corporate safety officer, notes the 13th straight year of earning the association safety award.
HP will cut about 14,500 positions and overhaul its retirement plan in a move to save approximately 1.9 billion annually. The restructuring targets a 10 percent global workforce reduction over 18 months, with priority on support roles in IT, human resources, and finance. No locations were specified for the layoffs.
Bank of America Corp will buy MBNA Corp in a 35 billion dollar stock and cash deal. Upon closure the bank will control about 40 million active credit card accounts making it a leading issuer. MBNA also trends as a supplier for rivals including Wachovia Corp in Charlotte.
