Tribe seeks Lake Erie fishing rights under 1805 treaty
The Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma filed a federal suit asking Ohio to recognize its right to commercial gill net fishing in Lake Erie without state limits. The tribe cites the 1805 Fort Industry Treaty granting fishing rights and aims to deploy at least three boats to fund land claims on North Bass Island. Ohio officials dispute the claim and say there is no credible evidence of tribal inhabitation or control of the island.

Lindenwald Civic Association seeks a public private partnership to build 350 units in the Lindenwald district to stimulate local business, but port authority members express caution over funding and ownership.
