Ohio Legion delegates drop first Negro commander
At the 53rd Ohio American Legion convention in Cleveland, 1,228 delegates unanimously rejected Charles Green of Warren as commander, pledging the group will not remain neutral on issues affecting law and order. The vote followed Green’s call for a firmer stance on state affairs and Kent State disturbances. Other officers elected include Galen Houser, David Cropper, Gerard Entingh, and Donald Shaw. The group also urged Congress to repeal Rhodesia trade embargo, improved POW/MIA treatment, and equal World War I pensions for Spanish-American War veterans.
