Western Union Seeks Telegram and Money Order Rate Hike
Western Union asked the Federal Communications Commission to approve higher telegram and money order rates effective August 17. A 15 word full rate telegram would rise 5 cents. 50 word night letters would gain about 10 cents. Money orders under $100 would rise 5 cents, with graduated increases for larger amounts, due to higher wage costs from union contracts. The changes exclude private wire, measured service, telex, and volume-discount plans. If FCC does not delay, the increases take effect automatically.
