Franklin Plans 3-mill Operating Levy to Fall Ballot
Franklin council moved to place a 3-mill operating levy on November's ballot. The measure, supported unanimously by William Smith, goes to City Solicitor Lloyd Ritz to draft a resolution for the next meeting. Auditor Paul Gaynor warned the budget is short and only the levy can provide needed funds for street work and police and fire protection. The current general fund shows a June deficit of 1,992.50, though revenue in June reduced the red figure. Total funds total 95,292.68 with 47,315.65 in bond retirement, and remaining funds would go toward bonds. Separately, River Street trees trigger debate over gutter and curb work, with city engineer Collings Wight proposing options to save trees. a decision was postponed to the next meeting.
