GNP declines ease as economy stabilizes

The Commerce Department reports GNP slipped only fractionally in the second quarter, suggesting stabilization after the deepest postwar recession. Inflation fell to 5.1 percent annual rate, with real disposable income rising 133 dollars per capita to 2908 dollars, saving rate at 10.6 percent. GNP volume would imply a 0.3 percent yearly decline, the sixth straight quarterly drop but the smallest.
