House Ruined In Shootout

An escaped mental patient, Robert Ruebush, 47, held police for two and a half hours in his ex-wife’s house, fired on officers, and was driven out by tear gas before being returned to Longview State Hospital. Ruling Ends Wage Clamp Limits for Higher Earners

Federal judge William B. Jones ruled the COLC overstepped authority by capping wage exemptions at 1.90 an hour. The decision removes that limit and allows higher raises while citing a $3.35-an-hour figure from a Bureau of Labor Statistics study as a benchmark for a $6,960 urban family income.

In Miami Beach and at Andrews Air Force Base McGovern outlined the uphill path to the presidency saying the race will be hard but achievable. Bombers strike Quang Tri area in massive U S raids

U S B52 bombers killed nearly 300 North Vietnamese troops and destroyed bunkers and equipment in two sides of Quang Tri City. More than 2,500 tons of explosives were dropped across South Vietnam in 1060 strikes, part of a major counteroffensive that saw 60 bunkers found eight miles south of Quang Tri City and six graves north east of the city containing 48 enemy dead.

Midwest Tornadoes Cause Deaths and Damage Across States

A wide swath of storms and tornadoes raked the Midwest from Missouri Valley to Lower Michigan. A Des Plaines driver died when a tornado toppled a tree onto his car. Homes lost roofs, trees fell, and several barns and a house were destroyed west of Milwaukee. Funnel clouds were sighted across Wisconsin Illinois Indiana Iowa Kansas and Michigan with hail the size of baseballs and winds near 68 mph. Ohio faced heat and humidity with a cold front forecast to move in by Sunday night and only isolated thundershowers overnight in northwestern Ohio amid a tornado warning that did not produce damage in Van Wert County.
