John D. Ehrlichman plans to appeal his conviction. The former White House aide, once praised by President Nixon as a top public servant, seeks relief through legal channels.
Former White House domestic affairs chief John D. Ehrlichman and three codefendants were found guilty of conspiracy and perjury over the Watergate era break-in at Daniel Ellsberg psychiatrist Dr Lewis Fielding’s Beverly Hills office. Other Nixon aides faced varied verdicts or acquittals in related actions.
Ars Asst. Atty. Gen. Henry Petersen testified before the House Judiciary Committee that he has never received any information linking President Nixon to a cover up in Watergate. Some Republicans still viewed him as Nixon's most favorable witness in the inquiry despite Ehrlichman’s perjury and conspiracy conviction, which critics say complicates the investigation into the plumbers and the break-in.
Two armed convicts Frank Gorham and Robert Jones renewed efforts to barter seven hostages in the U S District Courthouse for freedom while releasing 12 inmates from detention cells as a good faith gesture. They rejected a government offer to transfer them to a Oklahoma penitentiary and continue to demand a plane ride out of the country.
Penny Spencer, a deaf mute girl with sign language aid, described the January stabbing to Detroit Recorder's Court as two men attacked her mother Ruby Spencer. Penny identified Elijah Russell and James Lawson as the assailants as the trial proceeds.

A mother Enriqueta Bivens 21 and her four children Michael 4 Chad 2 Shad 2 Vickie 6 months along with Kathy Green 1 were killed when a fire swept a second story unit at the Winslow complex in Columbus. The blaze began about 6 30 a m and was out within 15 minutes. One fireman suffered second degree burns. Cause under investigation.
A 22 year old Greenwich man is charged with arson and burglary in the Port Chester discotheque fire that killed 24 youths. Peter J. Leonard held on $20,000 bond after a bail hearing. arraignment set for July 23. Police say the fire started in a toy chest to cover a burglary at Gulliver's discotheque.
