Hungarian refugee Michael Fekecs, linked to the slayings of two Union County police officers and four others, lay in a coma after a gunfight with Union Patrolman Walter Leamy on a wooded road. A second patrolman and several Franklin Township officers had previously arrested him for a revoked license, shortly before the slain officers were found in an apartment. Ballistics matched the same weapon to earlier murders.

Phoenix police arrested 19 year old Don E Smith who earlier that night attempted three robberies with different accomplices. After each attempt failed the accomplices fled, and two later carried out a liquor store robbery. The getaway car was left in Smiths yard and he received a 10 month to one year sentence for conspiracy while the other robbers remain at large.
A cold front from Canada will reach the Miami Valley tonight, ending the warm humid spell. Forecast calls for mostly cloudy warm conditions with scattered showers and thunderstorms and a nightly low near 65. Thursday looks partly cloudy cooler as rain ends and a high around 82, with Middletown reporting 96 degrees yesterday and 69 this morning.
Merck Sharp & Dohme announced on Tuesday that 120,000 doses of a killed-virus antipolio vaccine are released by the U S Public Health Service. The new shot is described as more powerful than the Salk vaccine and ready for use in the United States.
Belgian parachutists cleared Leopoldville airport within an hour after Congo forces briefly resisted their takeover. One Congolese soldier died and another was wounded, three Belgians were hurt. Gen. Geysens said Belgian troops were taking charge as fighting raged and refugees gathered. Lumumba accused Belgium of colonial plots while Belgium affirmed continued use of paratroops to restore order and protect port facilities.
Congolose troops fled in all directions while paratroopers rounded up about 50 members of the Force Publique. The soldiers initially resisted surrender of arms but began yielding as a Belgian officer started counting, with PA AP report noting panic at the airport airfield.
President Joseph Kasavubu and Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba sent a telegram to the United Nations charging that the Congo government faced a constitutional crisis and urged UN action to stabilize the young republic.
